Data Breach

A data breach occurs when data is either stolen by cybercriminals or is accidentally leaked from within an organization. The latter is also known as data leakage.

Data breaches are usually the result of unauthorized access to IT systems by bypassing perimeter security protections, or by obtaining access to credentials via phishing, social grooming, or other cyberattack methods. Once authentic user login details are stolen, they can be used to access IT systems and download data.
